West Lawn, a South Side community area that rarely sees homicides, recorded four homicides in one day last week, police said.
Four men ages 25 to 32 were shot to death Sept. 2 in the 6100 block of South Kildare Avenue, according to officials.
West Lawn has seen one other homicide this year, which also accured las week, a Red
Eye analysis of preliminary police data found. A 24- year-old man was shot Aug.31 in the 6700 blosk of South Tripp Avenue and died the next day, police said. West Lawn saw one homicide each in 2008 and 2009, according to police data.
Citywide, fatal shootings were recorded in East Garfield Park, Englewood, Greater Grand Crossing, South Chicago and South Lawndale in the past week, RedEye found. The victims ranged in age from 16 to 38, and two of the victims were female, according to afficials.
Ten homicides have been recorded so far this month. Police recorded 40 homicides in September 2009.
